UNISDR Global Platform on DRR: How Can CRI be Aligned with the Sendai Framework?
As thousands of governments, international organizations and civil society representatives arrive at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Cancun Mexico this week (22-26 May 2017), MCII puts forward its recommendations to further contribute to relevant sessions at the event.
The MCII position paper includes three sections:
- Climate risk insurance (CRI) in the context of the international policy debate drawing from the political convergence within the disaster risk management arena, discussions on sustainable development and climate change adaptation.
- Aligning Climate Risk Insurance with the Priority Actions of the Sendai Framework and its contributions to the Global Targets.
- MCII’s Policy Perspectives and Recommendations on the 2017 Cancun Platform.
In this paper, MCII also provides seven Pro-Poor Principles and recommendations on how to integrate CRI into climate risk management to encourage countries and relevant stakeholders to move beyond disaster management to pre-emptive measures to effectively address the complexities of disaster risk.
