SB58 Official Side Event
Taking stock of the protection gap in climate vulnerable countries
Tuesday, 06 June 2023
Room Berlin, World Conference Centre Bonn
14:45-16:00
Event summary on SEORS:
Closing protection gaps in climate vulnerable countries is a global priority. The event will cover gaps, views, and analyses that can guide discussions on initiatives like the Global Stocktake, funding arrangements for loss and damage, and/or the Global Shield against Climate Risks.
About the Event:
As the world takes stock of the progress in addressing climate change in 2023, it is evident that significant gaps persist, including in the financial protection of climate vulnerable people and countries. Understanding the extent of these gaps is crucial for moving from identifying problems to implementing effective solutions and assessing our progress along the way.
During this session, we aim to explore priority gaps, discuss methods of measuring them, and map ongoing processes and initiatives within and outside the UNFCCC. Notable initiatives include the Global Stock-take, Sendai Framework Midterm Review, Loss and Damage Finance discussion, Global Shield against Climate Risks, the V20 Accra Marrakesh Agenda & Climate Prosperity Plans, and many others. We seek to identify areas where these efforts are already addressing critical questions and determine where additional aligned endeavors are needed.
