Participants learned how the G7 initiative on climate risk insurance (InsuResilience) can change the paradigm on how poor & vulnerable communities manage climate risks. Experts gave direction on the effective ways in which the poor and vulnerable can be targeted with climate risk insurance, highlighting success factors, challenges, and principles for the way forward. Insights from research and the local level were provided, as well as a discussion on the role of the private sector in effectively complementing pro-poor approaches.

SB 44 Side Event of the Loss and Damage Network hosted by Practical Action: Thursday, 26 May 2016 – 11:30—13:00 – Bonn I/II 

The event focused on the limits to adaptation and why ‘Loss and Damage’ is an essential component of the climate regime. Experts provided insights from science and practice for climate risk management and climate justice, as part of the wider discussion on the work of the Warsaw International Mechanism and its future implementation. On behalf of MCII, Laura Schaefer spoke about climate risk insurance.
